Walter Seyfarth clarinet


The music teacher of his high school introduced the clarinet in class. Walter Seyfarth, just twelve years old at the time, was so fascinated by her tone that he immediately enrolled for class. At the age of 16, he won the first prize of the Deutscher Tonkünstlerverband. Later he studied at the Musikhochschule Freiburg with Peter Rieckhoff, then with Karl Leister as one of the first scholarship holders at the orchestra academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker. In 1975 he received a commitment in the Symphony Orchestra of the Saarland Radio, in 1985 he became a solo Eb clarinetist member of the Berliner Philharmoniker.


Three years later, he founded the Philharmonic Wind Quintet, with whom he undertook worldwide tours and has released numerous CD recordings. As a lecturer, Walter Seyfarth works at the orchestra academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker, at international youth orchestras as well as in the context of masterclasses. From 2003 to 2011 he was woodwind mentor of the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Juventud Venezolana Simon Bolivar. Between 2012 and 2015, Walter Seyfarth, who counts the composer Albert Lortzing and Ferdinand Ries as his ancestors, appeared as a regular guest soloist at the Brazilian festival Música em Trancoso.
