Irene Wilhelmi Violine


Irene Wilhelmi, born in Berlin, received her first violin lessons with Jascha Sussmann and Hans Mahlke. After high school he studied with Helmut Heller, the then first concertmaster of the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg. Participation in master classes by Henryk Szeryng and Leonid Kogan.

Debut with the Violin Concerto in A minor by Henri Vieuxtemps. Soon thereafter she performed as a soloist with orchestras in the Federal Republic of Germany, the GDR, the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, Austria, England and Sweden. Her repertoire includes Bach's violin concertos and Classical-Romantic literature (such as Mendelssohn, Brahms, Tchaikovsky), but also rarely performed works such as Richard Strauss' Jugendwerk, Béla Bartók's Concerto No. 1, Paul Hindemith's Concerto from 1939, the Violin Concerto by Siegfried Matthus.


An exciting stage in her professional career was the visiting professorship at Taiwan's National Institute of Arts Taipei where she taught for two semesters. This professorship has been associated with jury work promoting Taiwan's talents and chamber music concerts in various cities in Taiwan, as well as Hong Kong and Manila.

In Berlin, Irene Wilhelmi teaches at the University of the Arts. She now performs mainly in duo with partners at the piano. Her repertoire also includes a wide variety of style epochs, including contemporary compositions.
