Prof. Hartmut Fladt  Musicology


Hartmut Fladt, born in 1945 in Detmold, studied composition and music theory (with Rudolf Kelterborn) in Detmold, and then musicology in Berlin. In 1973, he received his doctorate under Carl Dahlhaus. He was an editor for the Richard Wagner Complete Edition (4 volumes), and has been a professor of music theory at the University of the Arts Berlin since 1981, and also at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna from 1996-2000.

In 2011, he received his habilitation in musicology. He retired in 2014/15, and now works as a private lecturer and lecturer. He is a member of the board of the Eisler Society and a member of the editorial board for the Hanns Eisler Complete Edition.

He has published around 90 works on music from the 13th to the 21st century, including reviews in journals such as Die Musikforschung, Musiktheorie, Neue Zeitschrift für Musik/Melos, Musica, ÖMZ, Musik und Bildung, Analysis, Zeitschrift der Gesellschaft für Musiktheorie, Musik & Ästhetik, and Österreichische Musikwissenschaftliche Zeitschrift. He has also regularly contributed to radio and television broadcasts on popular music and its mediation. He has written around 130 booklet texts, primarily for the Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft.

In addition, he has composed stage works, ballet, chamber music, choral music, electroacoustic music, songs, orchestral works, and "applied music," including film music. He was awarded the Karl-Hofer Prize in Berlin in 1985 and the Carl Orff Prize in 1995 at the European Opera Competition in Munich.
