We are pleased that you are interested in studying at our academy. All information regarding your application can be found here. Please note that an aptitude test (admissions exam) is required for all of our programs.


Please refer to the "Admission Requirements" for each respective program or contact our general academic advising for more information.

  • Admission conditions

    Bachelor of Arts

    • Federal Vocational Baccalaureate, Specialised Baccalaureate, general baccalaureate or qualification from a professional education institution (PEI) or upper-secondary level
    • A music entrance exam must be passed
    • Applicants who do not meet the specified admission requirements may still be admitted if they possess exceptional artistic talent and successfully pass the music entrance exam

    Master of Arts

    • Bachelor’s degree in the field of the chosen master’s degree from a university or university of applied sciences
    • Alternative bachelor’s degrees will be checked by the admission committee
    • A music entrance exam must be passed

    Master of Arts in Specialized Performance

    • Master’s degree in the field of Music Performance from a Swiss or equivalent foreign university of applied sciences
    • A music entrance exam must be passed

  • Checklist for Application Documents

    • Completed registration form from the AfM.
    • Completed registration form from the Kalaidos University.
    • Passport copy
    • "Residence registration"-copy ( For students with residence in Germany only )
    • Resume (German or English)
    • Motivation letter
    • School diplomas
    • Proof of payment for the application fee (€500)
    • Complete video lectures
    • Please include a list of the pieces and their corresponding music sheets in your application
  • Conditions for Exams via Video Recording

    The following conditions apply for exams via video recording:


            According to the examination conditions in the
            regulations.

    • All pieces must be played in the same video without cuts. A clock must be visible in the video to ensure that the video has not been edited.
    • The video performances must have been recorded during a public concert or a recital evening (no private video performances).
    • In the video, the entire body, face, hands, and instrument must be clearly visible.
    • The video must be of very good quality so that the expert committee can evaluate it. If the quality of the video is insufficient, a new recording must be submitted. If the length and/or quality of the video are inadequate, the video will be rejected by the secretariat.
    • Submit music sheets electronically.
    • The performance must be done from memory.
    • Please play or sing several pieces without specific requirements on style or title, except for sonatas for which only one movement is required.
    • Bachelor applicants must submit a 20-minute video. Master applicants must submit a 30-minute video.
    • The video presentations can be uploaded to a video platform such as YouTube or Youku and sent to us via email with a download link only.
  • Application Deadlines

    Admission exams for our Bachelor's and Master's programs can take place at any time. Please contact the AfM-Berlin secretariat to arrange individual exam dates for the respective main subjects.

  • Language Skills

    • The language of instruction at our academy is German.
    • We would like to point out that applicants who have not yet reached a B2 language level at the time of registration can only be admitted to study conditionally and must provide B2 level within the first 12 months in order to continue.
